Poetra Asantewa, a Ghanaian poet and writer, expressed her dissatisfaction with media companies for frequently inviting her only on International Women’s Day and International Poetry Day. During Joy FM’s entertainment discussion on Twitter Spaces, hosted by Kwame Dadzie, she urged the media to prioritize poetry and not regard it as an afterthought. Poetra disclosed that she declines invitations to media events during these two occasions, as she wants to be remembered beyond those days. Additionally, she stressed that for poetry to flourish, there should be supportive systems put in place by the country. According to Poetra, a country that cares about poets will ensure that they thrive from their formative years and be able to contribute to the economy.
